We all are keenly aware that our current cultural landscape and public discourse have become more divisive, combative and extreme. Partisan politics has followed suit, and a rise of these patterns are now presenting themselves in our churches as well. So how are Christians to respond to these prevailing winds of our day as we engage civically and politically?
We find Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 5:20 helpful and instructive in answering this question: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors (Christ’s sent representatives) as though God were making His appeal through us (to others, the world).” It is from this posture that we want to explore how we can live as faithful ambassadors—even within potentially divided, conflicted spaces—with others for God’s Kingdom purposes.
